Tsietsi Mashinini Foundation was established by Mr Dee Mashinini, honoring a Legacy of Courage: Inspiring Change for Future Generations

Born in Soweto in 1957, Tsietsi Mashinini was a courageous leader in the 1976 Soweto Uprisings, standing at the forefront of the student movement against apartheid. His leadership inspired a generation, symbolizing resilience and the pursuit of justice. Our Mission

Mission Statement

To create a heritage tourism hub in Soweto, akin to the June 16 Memorial Acre in Jabavu, that serves as a driving force for socio-economic development, cultural preservation, and community empowerment.

The Foundation envisions a rejuvenation of the spirit of Tsietsi Mashinini and the youth of June 16, 1976, both locally and internationally. By safeguarding their legacy and promoting Soweto’s artistic and cultural richness, the Foundation strives to uplift the community through initiatives that foster economic, social, and educational advancement.
